A Step-by-Step Approach

Step 1: Open an SSB Account

Our knowledgeable personal bankers will help you determine what account best suits your needs. Once your new account is funded, you can begin using your account immediately. Your check order and debit card will be sent to you in about a week.

As soon as your new account is open, you can enroll online for our 24-hour online banking services.

Step 2: Stop Using Your Previous Checking Account

Be sure to allow time and enough funds to cover any outstanding checks and debit card purchases that still need to clear your account. Bring in your old checks, deposit slips, ATM cards and/or debit cards, and we will shred them for you.

Step 3: Move Your Direct Deposits to SSB

Use the authorization to change direct deposit form below for each deposit that will go into your account to make this process effortless. Please attach a voided check from your new Security State Bank checking account.

Companies you may need to notify about changing direct deposits include:

  • Your employer’s human resource department
  • The company handling your retirement or pension payments
  • Social Security Administration

For Social Security direct deposit changes, call Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213.

Step 4: Transfer Any Automatic Payments to Security State Bank

Send the automatic payment form below to each vendor to whom you make an automatic payment. Print one form for each company that makes automatic withdrawals from your account, including automatic payments made using debit cards.

Companies you may need to notify include:

  • Mortgage companies
  • Utilities
  • Insurance companies
  • Phone/cable/Internet providers
  • Car loan companies

Step 5: Close Your Old Checking Account

Our Account closing request form below makes this process hassle-free. If you have any questions about using these forms, please call one of our friendly personal bankers at 218-263-8855, and they will be happy to help in any way they can!
